The 12 brain functions that help executives and managers to assess themselves. Everyone is born with the same set of 12 brain functions. As we grow up, some of these functions develop into our strengths, others become our weakest skills.

How Do You Rank In These 12 Areas?

1. SELF-RESTRAINT: This is the ability to think before speaking or acting. If you are strong in the skill; you take a deliberate and methodical approach to things, and are not often impulsive. If it’s a weakness: you say the first thing that pops into your head and generally act before you consider the consequences.

2.WORKING MEMORY: If you are strong in the skill; you are able to complete a task without losing sight of other commitments and have a reputation for reliability. If it’s a weakness: you are sometimes absent-minded and need frequent reminders to complete tasks

3.EMOTIONAL CONTROL: This is the ability to manage emotions in order to achieve goals, complete tasks, or control and direct behaviour. You can be counted on to follow through and to finish routine tasks even when working on tight deadlines. If you are strong in the skill: you can keep emotions in check to the point that they don’t get in the way of what you are trying to do. If it’s a weakness: you can be overly emotional sensitive or criticism

4.FOCUS: This is the ability to stick with something-a situation or a task. If you are strong in the skill: you are able to screen out distractions. If it’s a weakness: you have difficulty in seeing things through to the end.

5.TASK INITIATION: This reflects your ability to begin tasks or projects without procrastinating. If you are strong in the skill: you won’t put off something until tomorrow if it needs to be done now. If it’s a weakness: you have a tough time getting started on a project.

6.PLANNING/PRIORITIZATION: This is the ability to make decisions about what to focus on and what can wait. If you are strong in the skill: you are well-organized, efficient, and clear thinking. If it’s a weakness: you are unsure about what is important and can’t seem to make plans.

7.Organizations: This is the ability to arrange materials or tasks according to a system. It you are strong in the skill: you create a schedule to manage the week’s work and pay attention to details. If it’s weakness: you habitually misplace or lose items. You have no system for organizing information. You are used to being called messy…and worse

8.TIME MANAGEMENT: if you are strong in this skill: you pride yourself on being punctual. If you are weak: you tend to fight one fire after another as you lose track of time and your responsibilities.

9.DEFINING AND ACHIEVING GOALS: This is the ability to set a goal and follow through. If you’re strong in this skill: You always finish what you start. If it’s a weakness: You’re super at startup, but struggle with sticking with projects.

10.FLEXIBLE: You are flexible if you have the ability to revise plans due to set-backs or new information. If you’re strong in this skill: You quickly adapt to unexpected changes in plans. If it’s a weakness: You can vary from your schedule without feeling rattled.

11.OBSERVATION: This is the capacity to stand back and take a birds-eye view of yourself in a situation and make changes to your problem-solving approach. If you’re strong in the skill: You’re self-reflective and impartial. You learn from watching how others do things differently from you. If it’s a weakness: You have difficulty seeing the big picture and trouble reading reaction to your behaviour.

12.STRESS TOLERANT: This is the ability to thrive in the face of uncertainty. If you’re strong in this skill: You see unexpected obstacles as interesting challenges to be overcome. If it’s your weakness: If things happen too fast  or too many things happen at once, you lay awake at night and worry about what might happen next.
